Summary/Abstract: The article aims at answering to the question whether students of the Catholic theological seminary do need any philosophy. Undertaken analyses lead to a conclusion that philosophy is an alternative for fideism which seems to be quite wide-spread among Catholics. However, the philosophical study by seminarians finds its reason not only in giving an intellectual sup-port to their religious faith. The philosophy, especially the metaphysics, has its proper place in theological curriculum also for it enables the seminarians to acquire a better understanding of the human nature and the nature of all reality. The seminarians, by exercising the philosophy, strengthen their belief that the human reason can know an objective and universal truth, in-cluding a truth about God as an ultimate cause of all natural beings. In consequence, they become able to enter into a reasonable dialogue about truth with a more and more globalized world.
