Anniversary Insignias and Medals issued by the Pioneers Organization of Romania

Summary/Abstract: The Pioneers Organization of Romania issued an insignia and four official anniversary medals (fig. 1-5), that sometimes could be accompanied by a diploma (fig. 10-12). We have also discovered three semi-official insignias (fig. 6-7, 9), but for sure their number is much bigger. We have considered to be official medals and insignias those issued at central level, by the National Council of the Pioneers Organization (NCPO), and that were available all over the country. The semi-official insignias include those issued by the local structures of the Pioneers Organisation (with or without the approval of the NCPO), that had a more geographical limited area of availability. The first anniversary insignia was issued in 1969, in order to celebrate 20 years of activity. After this moment, other insignias and medals were issued every five years, until 1989, when the Organisation was ceased its existence. Prior to the anniversary insignias, the Organisation marked its first four anniversaries (between 1950 and 1953), by issuing every year a series of three stamps of different values that depicted aspects of the pioneers’ activities. In 1959, at its 10th anniversary, it issued a single stamp.
