The Use of Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences

Summary/Abstract: This article shows that the language of mathematics is not used only in the natural sciences – mathematical tools are also used in the humanities. It starts with an elaboration of the differences between the natural sciences and humanities based on Wilhelm Dilthey’s distinction. The mathematisation of knowledge and the use of mathematical tools in the humanities are discussed further in the article. Another of the paper’s aims is to show the broad spectrum of possibilities for using mathematics in economic studies.
