Summary/Abstract: During the first two centuries of Muslim rule in Persia, most of the local population embraced Islam. In light of the huge contributions of Persians and their heritage to the development and spread of Islamic civilisation and culture, it is clear that research into the very process of Islamisation of Persia, its key directions and factors that enhanced it, is indeed of particular importance for understanding different aspects of Islamic culture. This paper attempts to indicate the key features of the process of Islamisation of Iran, and to provide an outline of social, religious and political relations the Arab conquerors found in the territory of what used to be the Empire of Persia.
