Summary/Abstract: Throughout history nobility became one of the leading advocates of cultural motions, as well as promoter of literacy. Their political, social and cultural position in the society enabled them to attain such a role. For the same reasons today we have a great deal of material and literal extent sources about nobility. This paper outlines general overview of literary sources, i.e. archival records that could be of use in historical research of nobility. In the first part of paper special attention is given to several series of published authentic records, while majority of archival records is still unpublished and stored in specialized institutions – archives. The second part of paper introduces structure of these records, i.e. basic archival fonds and collections regarding the history of nobility. Above all, attention is drawn to Croatian State Archive (HR HDA), central archival institution in Croatia. Author discusses its Family and Estate archives, and collections such as Armales, so called Mape plemstva (Portfolios of nobility), Neoregestrata acta, and other collections of original archival materials.
