Summary/Abstract: The Author puts forward a new method of figuring out the number of the armed units members in the second half of the XVI cent.. The method is based on calculating golova (heads), i. e. commanders of a sotnya (one hundred) mentioned in razryadnye books. To summarize the author states that in certain campaigns cavalry units numbering up to 10 000-12 000 people could take part while in some military expeditions up to 20 000 people.
