Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to indicate opportunities and limitations of local media market development during the period of globalization, convergence and high market concentration. The Norwegian and Polish press market is analysed from the professional journalism rather than the economic perspective. The basis for writing the paper was the result of a survey between local and regional media journalists. Among many cases raised at the research there were the following issues: the shape of media and journalism in the time of high market concentration at the market; threats for media diversity and media freedom etc. Journalists also discussed the most important rules which must be kept and actions which must be taken in order for media concentration not to cause any harm to diversity. The paper is based on theory study of Horowitz, Waldfogel, George and both qualitative and quantitative research. Surveys were carried out in 2006 and 2008 in Poland and Norway reductively.
