Summary/Abstract: In the period of increased uncertainty on the financial markets, financial institutions and investors seek more secure financial instruments, including bonds of countries with a high credit rating. This article presents the types of country risk ratings and the analysis of changes in the assessment of these kinds of risk for Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary during the given period 2004–2010. Those countries experienced a decline in the international risk ratings and the highest changes occurred in case of Hungary. Country risk ratings at the end of the period (July 2010) were still at lower levels than in 2004. Weaker risk ratings contributed to the increase in the yield of treasury instruments issued by these countries.
