Summary/Abstract: I remember Zdenko in a rather different context from most of you who are here. Most of you knew him as a teacher or a scholar. I too saw him for a short time in that light. When I first started to work in the English department the German department was just across the passage from us and I would often see Professor Škreb, one of the founding fathers of modern language studies in Zagreb, one of the pillars of the faculty, and I was just a new arrival, a new arrival in every way to the faculty and the country and I was a little afraid of him.
