Summary/Abstract: The words ah and ahot respectively, firstly refer to the children born from the same parents. Figuratively, the word brother means an intimate or a close friend or a trustful political ally. The Christians’ quality of Christ’s brothers must not be seen as an invention of the Church made for its members nor an exaggerated claim because Christ Himself called the Apostles His brothers. The Brothers of the Lord or the brothers and sisters of Jesus is a phrase often used by the evangelists and by other writers of the New Testament. Among the Holy Fathers, a prominent place in formulating the teachings about the eternal virginity of Holy Mary and in inflicting the idea that the so called “Lord’s Brothers” were in fact Jesus’ cousins, was Saint Jerome. We consider that a convincing argument in stating that Jesus Christ did not have any blood brothers is Saint Luke’s relation about the wander of the 12 years old Jesus. One cannot say that there were brothers and cousins since the so called brothers of Jesus appear only in particular moments of Christ’s public activity and never in His own family, where the child Jesus is always mentioned alone with Holy Mary and righteous Joseph.
