Summary/Abstract: Starting from a well-known piece written by Caragiale, in which every possible aberation is accepted and motivated by the terrible heat-wave that affects mental activities and clear judgement, Dan Negrescu offers an extremely acid view on the social and political issues faced by Romania during the summer of 2002. His merciless eye encompasses all types of events, from dog-extermination campaigns to professional incompetence, from the issue of running water to that of political exiles, or to the current conflicts between minorities and the Romanian majority. The authors ironically concludes that the disorder fully manifested in the country might as well be just the natural outcome of this summer's crushing heat-waves.
