Summary/Abstract: Every hospital being in the service sector and providing medical services tries to make its functioning efficient, manage the unit to be an effective one and keep the costs at a fairly reasonable level. More and more ways are sought to solve the problem and one of them could be the idea of Homogenous Patients Groups involving a wide range activities.A detailed description of a medical process may be done by means of HPG in terms of both clinical and cost categories. It may also be an instrument creating communication between the medical personnel and the administrative personnel running the hospital. It may be used as an instrument to plan costs of hospital activity, a statistical instrument, and also as an instrument of contracting and financing hospitals.
