Summary/Abstract: The article shows the state of Russian intelligentsia from the point of view of its role in the country’s life in the changed social economic condi-tions. The objective reasons of reformatting intelligentsia and its partial loss of signs of independent social strata are given. The interdependence of intel-ligentsia’s destiny and Russian society is foretold. The results of the author’s sociological research are given.
