Summary/Abstract: The hypothetical case discussed in this paper deals with a situation in which a researcher, working for a research institute, publicly disclosed scientific results affecting negatively a political party, that was an important client of the institute, and thus brought the economic integrity of the institute into peril. After analyzing the case from the divergent perspectives of the main stakeholders involved (the instituteʼs management, the researcher in question and the political party), we conclude that autonomy of research in the field of social sciences is possible only if political practices assume the conditions of moral responsibility.
