The experimental group (N = 14) consisted of students, who practiced orienteering sport for 36 weeks 2–3 times per week. The control group (N = 22) consisted of students who only participated in physical training classes within school curriculum. Before and after the experiment physical fitness tests (8 Euro-fit) and heart rate variability were taken. Comparing with the control group statistical meanings of the experimental group were set for balance, flexibility, aerobic endurance, and common physical capability (p < 0,05). The parameters of heart rate changed from 0,753 ± 0,060 s to 0,796 ± 0,066 s (p < 0,01). Meanwhile the RRSD moved from 0,041 ± 0,017 s to 0,051 ± 0,016 s (p < 0,01); RMSSD – from 0,033 ± 0,012 s to 0,045 ± 0,015 s (p < 0,01). Conclusion: orienteering sport changed and influenced physical adaptation of those teenagers who practice orienteering. Orienteering could be an interesting, attractive and less energy-demanding activity to develop physical fitness. Adapted training allows to cope with daily stress and also to study better.
