The Ethnic Composition of the People of Vietnam

Summary/Abstract: Vietnam is a unified multi-national state. According to the most recent ethnographic data 54 nationalities live in Vietnam. These nationalities belong to different ethno-linguistic groups which are referred to three large language families: Australo-Asian, Malaysian-Polynesian and Tibetan-Chinese. Language groups and nationalities exist in every language family, distinguished by their own linguistic and cultural features. Today, after the victory of the revolution, the Vietnamese nation, characterized by ethnographic and ethnic diversity, is developing along the road of consolidation.
