Summary/Abstract: The article considers the “Die Darstellung im litauischen Volksliede” (München 1923) dissertation by B. Sruoga and his university manual “Rusø senoji literatûra” (Kaunas 1931) in the comparative aspect. The usage of European theoretical and comparative traditions helped to reveal greater archaism typical for the poetics of dainas and systematize its description. At the same time if compared with Lithuanian dainas, the poetics of Slavic folk songs become more apparent. “Rusø senoji literatûra” is the first and the only manual in the field, the increasing relevance of which is predetermined by the following factors: 1) the manual provides the complete picture of old Russian literature as well as historiography on it; 2) it reveals the Lithuanian national idea and the acceptance of Russian literature links with the polyphonic culture of the Great Principality of Lithuania; 3) it combines historical and sociological approach with aesthetic and poetic one, which proves the talant and the experience of Sruoga as an academic and a poet.
