Summary/Abstract: A major contradiction that Georges Mounin found in Roman Jakobson’s theory is that the two principles (the “equivalence” of the text components and the “defamiliarization” that breaks the equivalent recurrence of these components thus bringing forth the “frustrated expectation”) that come into his “literariness” concept are disconnected. With arguments from the autopoietic systems, one could find further evidence that the principles at issue are closely connected and in fact inseparable.
