Summary/Abstract: Looking back on the key elements in philosophy at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th a change in the development of the pragmatic view can be noticed. John Dewey, Charles Sanders Peirce and William James helped portray an image of the way in which people should extract theoretical elements from practice and then make use of them to improve the matters necessary to be implemented. They debated over the idea that an issue should be regarded from all points of view, focusing mainly on the practical one, offering people the opportunity to use their functional knowledge in an intelligent manner. This could also be said about the “American Dream,” which leads people to believe that if they calculate their ideals in a practical way they can undertake what they have planned for themselves in a well-thought approach.
