Summary/Abstract: By investigating the evolution of the Transylvanian urban legal regulations concerning the public order, the study identifies the areas of action of different regulations included in the urban statutes in the second half of the 16th century, and presents the traceable aspects of „police” authority of the town council in the complex argumentation of the statutes. In comparison to the German imperial and regional processes of legislation, the actual regulations on public order occurred relatively late in the Transylvanian towns, only in the second half of the 17th century. However, the differentiation of the areas to be controlled and the crystallization of the officers’ jurisdiction took place in the second half of the 16th century.
