Summary/Abstract: Perestroyka of Russian society in the late 80‘s - early 90‘s of the last century, a fundamental impact on the development of communication technology and the media market in the country. Among other conditions, it is required to form a new learning environment, the use of modern technologies, not only educational, but also training to improve the skills of media. Two fundamental principles should determine the development of the educational sector strategy: To develop a principle of continuing professional education in the journalism; To use innovative approaches in the educational process, including distance education technologies (DET). By analyzing the characteristics of distance programs in journalist education in Russia, we come to the conclusion that their effective implementation is influenced by a variety of factors. As a result, the format of programs may to vary by combining full-time and distance form. Of particular importance is the age aspect.
