Summary/Abstract: This paper reviews the nature of the Canadian Electoral System. It presents the fundaments entrenched in the electoral law and electoral boundaries acts. Special attention is given to institutional mechanism of the past the post electoral system and its influence on the party system. The paper also examines new features of the system: the fixed election date, and a new financing procedure of political parties.
