Summary/Abstract: The wall is an archetype of division. It comprises both a physically existent construction and the symbolic dimension. Discussing the wall archetype from a historical perspecitve, the Author focuses on such issues as defence against external destructive powers, aspiration towards fostering a durable and supporting community and legitimization of liminality, being a determinant which differentiates both worlds.
