Summary/Abstract: One way to approach the general study of recent Estonian art is to analyse it as necessarily linked to issues of identity formation, the process that was central to the official ideology of the first decade of the newly independent nation state. Indeed, the 1990s can be mapped by numerous works and quite a number of exhibitions which sought to define signs of Estonian-ness in visual arts. It remains to be asked to what extent and in which ways these representations engaged with the official/public discourse of Estonian nationalism.
