Summary/Abstract: One of the collections kept at the Dialect Archives of the Institute of the Estonian Language (IEL) is indexed KKI MT 321. It contains dialect texts from the Isle of Kihnu, written down in 1947–1952 by the Estonian polyglot linguist Pent Nurmekund. The Archives acquired the texts only in the 1960s. According to T. Saar, who was a local of Kihnu and a friend of P. Nurmekund, these are copies of original writings. The manuscript consists of 230 pages carrying 883 records from 150 informants. What makes it particularly interesting is the fact that evidently it mediates direct conversation on topics probably suggested by the interviewer. In such free conversation, hearsay is often re-told with personal additions, if not represented as a memorate, i.e. as a piece of personal experience. From the folklorist point of view this is extremely interesting material well worth publishing.
