Summary/Abstract: Abstract: Lopahin's Suite, or Has a Change of Paradigm Occured in Performing Theatre in Târgu-Mureş? The reception of The Cherry Orchard (1985), the last production directed by György Harag at the Romanian company, was uniformly enthusiastic by the theatre society. Although Miklós Tompa – founder and leader of the Szekler (Transylvanian) Theatre – respected the director qualities of György Harag, he criticised this performance of The Cherry Orchard as other ones directed by Harag. His standpoint is clear, as representing Stanislavski’s realism he opposed the metaphoric expression based on the original interpretation of realism by Harag. In the course of the last 25 years the Theatre of Târgu-Mureş (Marosvásárhely) could not reach the high standard of the earlier periods of directing either by Tompa or by Harag, because the heritage of none of them could be integrated permanently in to the work of the groups, thus they could not rejuvenate. I am trying to elucidate the roots of this phenomenon.
