Summary/Abstract: Abstract: Karinthy and Ionesco, or Inoesco and Karinthy The study is a comparison of two plays which have the same subject: a teacher-student relationship. Frigyes Karinthy’s grotesque comedy The Music Lesson was published in 1921, Eugène Ionesco’s absurd one-act entitled The Lesson was written in 1950. Both texts are presenting the teacher-student relationship as a power structure, where the teacher is the possessor of the authority and the student is a passive character who suffers the insults. This study is an analysis of the two plays from the perspective of linguistics.
