Monetary policy in the euro zone and in Poland – a comparative analysis

Summary/Abstract: The subject of this article is monetary policies led in Poland and in the euro zone. The research focuses on the following issues: objectives and principles of monetary policy, operational framework of this policy, the strategy of the monetary policy, the effectiveness of the actions of the Eurosystem and National Bank of Poland with regard to maintaining the price stability and stabilizing of the economy and factors setting limits of the effective monetary policy. The study shows that monetary policy in Poland is not significantly different from the monetary policy in the euro zone. Its objectives, principles and operational framework are similar. Some differences can be reported in the effectiveness of the central banks actions, as well as the role played by changes in nominal and real exchange rate and the volatility of import prices in conducting the effective monetary policy geared to price stability and stabilizing the level of GDP by changes in interest rates of the central bank.
