Summary/Abstract: The Jewish population of interwar Slovakia constituted a multifaceted religious and ethnic minority marked by a number of deep-seated internal divisions. The historical process through which these divisions came about was a very complex one and the resulting practical challenges, especially the ritual issues involving membership in the community, were probably the most important factor influencing the reproductive behavior of the community as a whole and its changes.
