Summary/Abstract: In modern society, the perception of the social, cultural and artistic phenomena is changing. Certain social, cultural and artistic aspects, which have not been researched for a long time, become the focus of attention. Marginal phenomena become important and urgent. The experimental theater influenced different kinds of theater. The term “marginal” links different theatrical phenomena which have not been extensively researched. Examples of the non-traditional and marginal theaters in Lithuania are not numerous. One such example could be the Theater of Gliukai which was founded by Benas Šarka. The works of Šarka can be characterized as original and non-traditional. The best way to analyze them is to choose the marginal context of social-cultural life. Non-traditional structure, original use of theatrical elements of expression, and interesting creation of the world of performance are the characteristic features of the works of Šarka. The director does not use traditional dramaturgy: the visual side of the performance is more important. The theater of Šarka could be called marginal because of the non-traditional use of dramaturgy, scenography, theatrical space, different relation with spectator and the themes of the performance. It is important to emphasize the marginal identity of the author and the characters of the performance.
