Summary/Abstract: In his study, Acad. Mihai Cimpoi approaches the issue of existing relations between marginalism and centrism, with all the complexes generated in the context of European and worldwide integration process. The author is also preoccupied with the Romanian exile phenomenon, with the exiled condition, in relation to two models: Ovidius, who always laments his state as an exiled poet, and Dante, who gives a positive meaning to the distance from his homeland. Analysis is applied to the process of integration in other cultural environments and return to one’s own culture. The paper also deals with facets of the esthetical and ethical revision of some Romanian writers’ work, as part of the post-1990 process of societal democratization.
