Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the paper is to compare different business process maturity models, describe common elements and key differences. It also identifies and describes chosen practical aspects of their application. First, the idea of different models is presented, based on three models of foreign authors: H. J. Harrington’s, CMMI’s (Capability Maturity Model Integration) and ISO 9004’s and three Polish ones: P. Grajewski’s, S. Nowosielski’s and G. Gruchman’s. The authors point out the common elements, similarities as well as the main differences. The results of the comparison lead to a conclusion that all presented models are very similar. The key differences are in the level of details of the attributes and their different assignment or grouping, while the assumptions and the concepts of usage remain practically the same. Presented models could be very helpful in practice in the implementation and further usage of the process oriented approach, they could be a “road map” in taking actions, initiatives or projects aimed at achieving changes in the area of processes. Because the presented models have a lot of similarities, a decision about which model should be used is not critical.
