Summary/Abstract: Nowadays in the knowledge economy continuing education is seen not only in terms of unavoidable need, but as a requirement of civilization and the condition of human existence. It is the subject of many social debates and discussions as well as an important objective of determining the shape of the modern organization of Polish and European politics. Thus, the problem of learning throughout life is becoming an increasingly complex issue, affecting different actors and factors. On the basis of literature studies this article presents the most important issues that make up the general context, ranging from the presentation of contemporary premises taken in this area of operations by identifying legal conditioning, looking at lifelong learning from the perspective of a studying adult to showing the outlines of contemporary politics of learning throughout life in the perspective of Poland and Europe.
