CONTEMPORARY TENDENCIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NOTARY PROFESSION

Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with contemporary tendencies in the development of the institution of notary, arisen due to development of socio-economic relations, in order to accomplish basic functions of the notary office, strengthening legal certainty, protection of public interest and relief of justice authorities, which is the fundamental goal by introducing this office into the legal system of a country. In the introduction we present a short review of the emergence and development of the notary profession. Furthermore, trends of expansion of powers of the notary, liberalization of the notary profession, as the most recent tendency within the frame of the European Union, as well as the impact of liberalization on quality of notary services are also presented.
