Summary/Abstract: John Paul II expresses compassion in the perspective of personalism. God is the source of mercy. He created man and in Christ he has forgiven him his sins. The answer which a man can give to God is to be his trust in Christ. In this context, human compassion will be to grant assistance to a person in need. It should be provided in the spirit of respect for his dignity and in the spirit of fidelity to himself. The article argues for the value of the saving mercy in the life of individuals and Christian communities.
