Summary/Abstract: The Slovak crown (koruna) was the last kind of currency which was in use during the circulation of the crown currency on the territory of Slovakia between the years 1892 and 2008. Day of birth of the Slovak crown, or the currency separation on February 8, 1993, came with the end of the Czecho-Slovak Federative Republic on January 1, 1993. The aim of this study is to present a short overview of the origin and introduction of the Slovak crown, of the formal features, value aspects and other connections of this currency unit in the context of the general development of the economy and finances of the independent Slovak Republic. The study is also focusing on the analysis of the National Bank of Slo¬vakia's tasks during fifteen years of existence of the Slovak crown. The final part of the study exemplifies development of preparations for an entry of the Slovak economy into the international structures, especially to the Eurozone, and the final transition of the Slovak currency to the euro, which came on January 1, 2009. This day was the day of termination of the crown currency in Slovakia after more than one hundred years of its use.
