Summary/Abstract: First known members of the German family Kraudy from Banská Bystrica were burghers Alexander Kraudy and his son Paul, who were the renowned goldsmiths in the second half of the 17th century. Johann Georg Kraudy, son of the town councillor Erasmus Kraudy, was educated, and thus prepared himself for the later career, in the 70s of the 17th century at the University of Wittenberg. He and his younger brother Adam Kraudy, as the „Ring- und Waldbürger” of Banská Bystrica, i. e. mining entrepreneurs, were honoured with a title of nobility in 1693, along with the coat of arms, depicting a gold ring and a curative plant of rue. Family members, who studied at the Universities in Jena and Witten¬berg, in the 18th century came firstly to Banská Štiavnica and later to Dobšiná, but they opened pharmacies also in Prešov and Debrecen. At the beginning of the 19th century one family branch settled down in Miskolc, where its members belonged to the elite. They participated in the activities of the Lutheran Protestant Church and took the Hungarian (Magyar) identity. The most famous member of Kraudy family in Miskolc was Joseph Kraudy, reputable town amateur-painter.
