Summary/Abstract: The study undertakes a research into a rarely examined topic, which is the settle-ment of Slovak people in Southern Transdanubia in the 18th century. The circumstances of their settlement are presented according to areas demarcated by geographical features (the Danube valley, Völgység, the middle flow of the Kapos River, Outer Somogy), mainly focusing on the 1720 decade. The number of settlements concerned in this migration is 24, but only the more important places (19) were presented in the study. As a summary we can say that this wave of settlement was weaker than those greater waves of immigration the Slovak people in the 18th century. Slovak communities who would long retain their mother tongue and origins did not develop in Southern Transdanubia. The families moving in were fewer in number than those Slovaks in North¬ern Transdanubia, Békés, or Bácska, although their numbers to estimate – because of the uncertainty of tax census data or the transcription of Slovak names – is not to be under¬taken here. Only in one place, in Mözs did the Slovak language survive until the turn of the century and the official censuses. Some groups appearing in the sources moved on to other parts of the country, those remaining populated mostly only streets or parts of towns. The available sources in most cases show the migration of only a few families who later found their final homes in Hungarian villages, and got acculturated after one or two generations. The rapid assimilation must have greatly contributed to the phenomenon that this migra¬tion wave has become less known.
