Summary/Abstract: This is a substantial book analyzing and summarizingmaterial relevant to the funerary installations and burial customs of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period, which, in this case, as the authors specify in the first paragraph of the Preface, designates ‘the late Hellenistic (Hasmonean) and early Roman (Herodian) periods’. Both authors have been involved in the study of Jerusalem tombs for many years (see Bibliography, pp. 487–489 and 504–505)which culminated in their joint book published inHebrew in 2003. In the authors’ own words, ‘the present study is an updated and improved version’ of that original book. By a lucky coincidence, it has soon been followed by another relevant book, authored by Jean Sylvain Caillou, Les tombeaux royaux de Judée dans l’antiquité de David à l’Hérode Agrippa II. Essai d’archéologie funéraire, Paris 2008.
