Summary/Abstract: The author examines the Slavic religious mythological concepts and beliefs in the spiritual culture of Bulgarians with a method, applied by him in the study of the religious-mythological complex of the proto-Bulgarians. It consists in reconstruction through a system of binary oppositions. As a model he uses the scheme, offered by V. V. Ivanov and V. N. Toporov in their book “The Slavic Linguistic Patterning Semiotic Systems”. The following basic oppositions are proposed and supported on the basis of concrete folklore material: happiness—misfortune, life—death, even—odd, right—left, up—down, sky—Earth, Earth—underworld, East—West, South—North, dry land—water, day—night, New Year—old year, sun—moon, light colour—dark colour (white—black, red—black), water—land, one’s own—somebody else’s, home—mountain, male—female, senior—junior, chief—not main.
