Summary/Abstract: France and Hungary maintained, throughout the 20th century very modest political and economic and cultural relations. Under Soviet occupation after 1945, Hungary has never played a major role in French foreign policy. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990's there was a new situation. 1989 reperesented a cornerstone year for the renewal. This study, based on the archives of the French Ministry of Foreign Affaires and on the French and Hungarian press, presents the main characteristics of the changes in the bilateral relations.
