Summary/Abstract: The article follows one of the newest and most dynamic phenomena in the contemporary Bulgarian sociocultural situation – the folk-boom and the music being on the top of its wave – nowadays Bulgarian ethnopop. Terminological coordinates have been searched on the basis of similar phenomena on the Balkans and paralleled with the others designations “traditional music”, “mohabet music”, “music of the wedding orchestras”, „folk-pop”, etc. Thus the term „contemporary Bulgarian ethno-pop music” has been suggested. An attempt for а periodization has been made: а period of the prehistory of nowadays еthnорор (From the middle of XIX century to the mid 80-es of XX century), а period of the early contemporary ethnopop (from the mid 80-es to the early 90-es) and а period of the developed contemporary ethnopop (from the early 90-es till now). The third part of the text points at some features from the sociocultural portrait of the phenomenon: the Balkan character of the Bulgarian ethnopop music, its characteristics as an industry and its roles in the technological process, its mass media dimensions, its stars and hits.
