Summary/Abstract: This paper investigates the way in which the literary theme of melancholy can be related to the works of Jorge Luis Borges. By looking at a number of Borges’s masterpieces, one can see that the presence of melancholy is not only incidental; it becomes a central theme that enhances the complexity of the text and invites readings from multiple points of view, a typical trait of Borges’s entire body of works.
