Contribution to the genesis of helmets visor type

Summary/Abstract: In the literature of the subject it is assumed that socalled visor helmet was formed in the 1st half or around the half of the 14th century. Iconographic sources from the end of the 13th century such as Cronicle de Bernat Descolt from the years 1282-85 (Cronica de Bernat Descolt) or Plusieurs romans de la table ronde from 1286 show that helmet of this type existed as early as in the last quarter of the 13th century. In the 1st half of the 14th century it was used on many battlefields. At the same time, it seems to be doubtful that these helmets were created as a result of the evolution of so-called secret helmet. They appeared in the last quarter of the 13th century as a result of the evolution of helmet of pot type.
