Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to identify sources of economic growth in ASEAN countries during the global economic crisis of 2007/2008+. The study is based on critical analysis of international professional literature, supported by an overview and presentation of numerical data obtained from ASEAN and WTO statistics. The analysis shows that individual economies reacted to the global economic crisis of 2007/2008+ in various ways. In general, however, global crisis suppressed economic growth in all ASEAN countries, and a high growth rate returned in 2010. In medium term, sources of the present economic growth in ASEAN countries lie in further liberalization of domestic regulations on free trade in goods and services and on foreign direct investments, opening up of economies, steady increase of social welfare and the growth of the middle class, continued structural changes consisting in the increasing role of the service sector, growing share of foreign trade in GDP of individual countries. The latter in particular has strengthened links with the global economy, but also fostered multilateral cooperation among ASEAN countries, resulting in their rapid economic integration. It should also be noted that the stimulation of economic growth in the region is strongly affected by regional level initiatives (i.e. signing and ratification of the ASEAN Charter), as well as the expansionary monetary policy, macroeconomic supervision, and fi nancial stability measures already adopted or postulated within the region (ERPD, CMIM, AMRO).
