Map of the Use of the Lexeme Système in “Temps et verbe” by G. Guillaume. Towards Translatology Orientation

Summary/Abstract: In G. Guillaume “Temps et verbe” the “system of time” of language or “the system of systems” of languages designate the organisation of verbal systems, which engages with the times internal to each language, ancient or modern. The aim of contribution is to demonstrate, through the individuation of the designatum of the term système in different important parts of “Temps et verbe”, Guillaume’s use of the lexeme and thus to compare its use in F. de Saussure’s Cours. In particular, this paper will discuss the use of this term in some fundamental occurences within the two theoretical frameworks, especially focusing upon the use of syntagms: système de la langue and systéme du temps. I suggest that Guillaume in his text makes considerable use of the term système through many forms, especially that of système verbo-temporel, whose analysis is central into research.
