Summary/Abstract: The article treats the theme of the history of the grammatical description of Cashubian. There is a list and a short evaluation of both types of the existing Cashubian Grammars: the purely descriptive ones and the Grammars contributing to the codification of the language. The focus of the study is the comparison of four concise Grammars that were supposed to be a tool for an active use of the language. These are the short Grammars written by Ceynowa (1979), Lorentz (1919), Treder and Breza (1981) and Gołąbk (1997). The article evaluates especially their proposals regarding a common Cashubian written language and the dispute about its orthographical and morphological features. In general, we can say that the proposed forms of Ceynowa and Lorentz are based on the Northern, more archaic dialects. However, the most used concise Grammar (Treder-Breza) allows the user to choose his own variants, while recommending the Southern Literary tradition as a model of the written language. The last work demonstrates the actual tendency to base the written language on the Central dialects with regard to some Northern, 'more Cashubian' features.
