A library activity of Jerzy Samuel Bandtkie

Summary/Abstract: The work presents a library profile of Jerzy Samel Bandtkie (1768—1835). The achievements of the researcher in the field of librarianship in Wrocław and Kraków were discussed. The results of Bandtkie’s work in the library at St Barnard Church in Wrocław, where the scholar was a librarian till 1811 were presented. Next, a fragment of his activity in Kraków (1811—1833) where he was a head of Jagiellonian Library and professor of bibliography were characterised. The actions taken by Bandtkie aimed at ordering and catalogising the collection of Jagiellonian library were elaborated on. The political-economic situation of Jagiellonian Library at that time and its influence on realised tasks were briefly accounted for. Also, the work deals with the aims and assumptions Bandtkie formulated as a librarian.
