Summary/Abstract: St. John Chrysostom: The Second Catechesis to Those about to Be Illuminated; and Concerning Women who Adorn Themselves with Plaiting of Hair, and Gold; and Concerning Those who Have Used Omens, Amulets and Incantations, all which are Foreign to Christianity. As the title shows, this catechesis is an instruction to those who are about to be illuminated, that it, to those who will receive soon the Holy Baptism. St. John Chrysostom tries to make them aware of the importance of this Sacrament and of the way of life they should adopt after this great and unique moment. After becoming Christians, the present catechumens, whom St. John Chrysostom is now addressing to, must strive for the observance of the Christian Law, their single and unique purpose must be that of pleasing God, of conforming their will to the divine will. The Sacrament of the Holy Baptism is a “180° turning-point”, and this should be made visible through the entire new life of those baptized.
