Summary/Abstract: The subject I have undertaken in the article, that of those who performed high-level functions in the party hierarchy of the Krakow voivodship, is of enormous interest to me. I have demonstrated the role of the local leadership group as seen from the angle of the party’s statutory bodies and the mechanisms operating within it, that is, the reporting and electoral conference, the plenary committee and the executive committee of the Voivodship Committee. I have devoted most of the space to the latter institution, the executive committee, bearing in mind that it had a decisive impact on the forming of the voivodship party organisation’s political profile, and maintained regular contact with Warsaw, where it was obliged to consult the more important steps. It was also a standing body, rather than one convened periodically. In the period in question, its composition was changed with some frequency. Every 1st Secretary of the Voivodship Committee attempted to bring forth, within the Executive Committee, such a balance of power as would strengthen his own position. Some happened to last for a long time, whatever the changes in the political climate (the names of Mr Józef Nagórzański and Mr Władysław Machejek may be mentioned here). The role and character of the Executive Committee are undoubtedly of major significance in reliably portraying the relationships within the PUWP organisation in Krakow.
